What is a pistol ? Do you know ? I thought that it was just a gun that was held in your hands and doesn’t have a stock. Well that is partially correct, but there is more!
The ATF defines a pistol as this,
The term “Pistol” means a weapon originally designed, made, and intended to fire a projectile (bullet) from one or more barrels when held in one hand, and having:
- a chamber(s) as an integral part(s) of, or permanently aligned with, the bore(s);
- and a short stock designed to be gripped by one hand at an angle to and extending below the line of the bore(s).

So with that in mind I dove into some different pistol options. One of which I thought was interesting; an AR Pistol or a braced ar pistol. After scouring the web I found a very affordable option in the form of a Palmetto State Armory 10.5” Carbine-Length SBA3 Pistol. It’s made in the USA and it is super modular. While the one I got was a BLEM meaning blemish. It didn’t have any issues that I could see.
This pistol not only has some standard nice features for an AR-15 it is only $579.99. I can’t believe it. It also comes with some awesome Magpul Accessories. The Magpul MOE Grip and a Magpul 30 Round PMag.

My next steps in finding out of this pistol is a great option is putting some rounds though it and seeing how it handles. My test will be the following assessments.
1. One Hundred round out of the box test. (I’ll add a Sight and Muzzle Brake) Then I will report any misfires, jams or changes in performance.
2. 5 Round Group Accuracy Test. This will be done at 25 yards in a rest since the sights will likely be a red dot for close range action.
3. Overall Appearance and Ascetics, how does the pistol feel and function on a few range drills.
